Hawaii Photographer offers Smash Cake Photo Sessions

A big milestone in a child's life is his/her first birthday. This is a very special time for parents too. In Hawaii, often a baby's first birthday is marked by a baby luau. As a baby photographer, I love when parents choose to celebrate it with a smash cake during baby's one year portrait session. My rule is that Mom and Dad get to clean up baby, while I clean up the rest of the mess; not sure who gets the better deal...With that being said, there are some parents who choose not to bring in a smash cake for whatever reason In that case, there is a backup plan with a real looking fake cake. Whatever option is chosen, we want to have lots of fun at the first birthday photo session.

Balloons are another fun prop

In addition to bringing a cake, you can bring 3 - 5 pink or blue helium, latex balloons and/or banner for additional props . It is recommend that you pick up the balloons shortly before the session, otherwise they will go flat. As for cake, make sure it is decorated with colorful frosting. As mentioned earlier, there is an artificial cake if you don't want to deal with the mess, though I will say that a real cake is so much more fun, if your baby is willing to play with it. I strongly recommend that you stay away from fondant frosting. Though it makes a beautiful cake, it is very difficult for baby to get messy.
